How to play

Divide the grid into rectangles. Every rectangle must contain exactly one number, and its area must equal that number.

  • Desktop: Click and drag to draw a rectangle. Right-click a rectangle to remove it.
  • Mobile: Tap the first cell, then drag to the last cell. Long-press to remove a rectangle.

A green preview means the rectangle is valid; a red preview means it is not.

About Shikaku

Shikaku (四角に切れ, meaning “divide by box”) is a logic puzzle published by Nikoli, the Japanese puzzle company also known for Sudoku. The puzzle was first published in 2000. Given a grid with numbered clues, the solver must partition the entire grid into non-overlapping rectangles where each rectangle contains exactly one number that equals its area. Shikaku exercises spatial reasoning and logical deduction — no arithmetic is needed once you understand the rules.
